just bought a Volga

Hello Volga enthousiast,

I just bought a Volga Hydrofoil. I’m From Holland and my girlfriend is Latvian. Actually, I know the person who is selling the Volga (the link that is posted). I bought another one in Latvia.
First of all: I am looking for people in Holland who own a volga. I’m preparing to transport mine to Holland and would be interested to meet enthousiasts here.
Second: Im able to negotiate with the seller in Latvia if someone is looking for a Volga. Because of my contacts in Lativa, I could get a better price. End of next week, I will be in Latvia for a month. I’m not doing this for the money, only because it is great to help someone with the same interests. If the buyer lives someone nearby, we could share the transport costs for example.

The seller in Latvia is selling to volga’s. I think he has got 2 for sale He sells them with ore without engine. He has also got original, renewed GAZ engines.

Greetings,

Daan

Hi,

First of all wellcome. In your mail you say you don't do anything for money, but later on you try to find someone else to share the transport costs. Normally this would not give any sense ...., but I need a seawater cooler! (Please don't hate me for this statement! Ask your supplier if he has a ''mint'' one for a reasonable price, since I am a potential customer for this.)

Hey Georg,

thank you for welcoming me!

If you explain me exacty what you mean with the item you want, i can ask. What i mean by offering my help is, if someone from Holland want a latvian Volga, it doesn't make sense to have sperate transports, if it is possible to suit 2 volga's on one transport. That's why said: sharing transport costs becouse mine also need to go to Holland ;-)

Do you mean just a normal stainless steel (don't know exactly the englinsh word) heat extractor for salt water? the one that is connected to the intern cooling water from the engine and takes out sea water to cool down?

Greetings,

Daan

Hello Daan,

Which Holland do you live? The Northern or Southern part? I guess with your Volga the current grand Volga total comes to 11 boats. Some 275's, some 70's, some Strela's and even a Molnia. We should organise an anual parade in the Netherlands with he complete Volga history represented!

Would like to see your boat once it get's here. I'm in Amsterdam, and my story is the same as yours, though mine come from Lithuania :)

Welcome aboard!

Maurits

Hey Marits,

Great! You can also email me directly thourgh mail in Duch. i've send you an private message. Would be great. I love to be in contact and would be super to hear your story's. I love to know onwers in Holland, now i know nobody.., well, i know you more ore less :-)

Mine need complete restauration. It is a good quality 1980's volga-hydrofoil. Origional engine is out, and i boutht it with an alsmost new 240 HP V8. Actually, i don't like the engine. I think it is to powerfull for our waters. The previous owner specially bought this engine for the volga, but his money run out to restore the boat. So i'm lucky! I'm thinking about replacing it for a diesel engine. So if you have any advise...

hope to hear from you soon!

greetings,

Daan

Hi Daan,

I do not know what kind of engine or type you have, but if you have enough power (torque) you may run with lower rpm if you have a nice reduction ratio without stressing your engine, lower consumption and a nice V8 rumble music from the back. A diesel should be more for a commercial application or for somebody going to sea boating very often.

Hi Daan,
congratulations for the wize buy, the boat is great.
Just tell us what exact engine you have got in the boat.
Any engine specs?
HP / rpm, torque /rpm the best would be if you have an engine chart/ dynochart to see what the characterics are and than to advise you.
perhaps if you run the engine on lower rpm you will get a better milage - lower consumption.
What is the compression? what gas do you use regular euro 95 or premium 98 octane?
A diesel is ok for commercial operation or frequent use, Diesels are more expensive to maintain and buy. if you do not use frequently the old V8 would be better. Look at the prices for new Diesel marine engines - VW marine or BMW/Yanmar...
Check the engine section of the forum we were discussing it with Captain Georg of the Flying Carpet.
regards,
Christian

"Tremendous" is BAD.

What would you guess it could be, 1.5? more?
