GAZ 53L, V8 gasoline engine, gearbox and V-drive

Dear Friends, I decided to sell the complete drive train of my boat and to replace it with a diesel. The engine is reconditioned and has an high voltage ignition, so are both gearbox and v-drive. This is a hard decision for me as I always wanted to stay with the original, but my boat became to heavy...

Re: Propeller of the Volga 70 with GAZ53L engine

Dear Fox, I tried to find in the internet a torque/rpm diagram of the GAZ 53L engine but could not find. The engine has been produced over many years and probably was upgraded several times, too. Known versions to me are: 1965 model, engine type GAZ53L on the Test Report indicated with 70 HP (Propel...

Re: Propeller of the Volga 70 with GAZ53L engine

Our previous tests on the boat were lacking accuracy, as the teleflex stuff was unable to deliver accurate data. The speedometer did not show the boat speed as the pick-up was clogged with marine growth. The revometer showed 1200 rpm when engine was switched off! So there was no reliable data to hol...

Propeller of the Volga 70 with GAZ53L engine

Hi, I have put my boat to water and am testing it since 6 weeks. Unfortunately the test runs were not very satisfactory, as we found ourselves lurking around with approx. 10 knots at max 2600 rpm. During the rebuilding of the boat, we made following changes: Hull: - we added a stainless steel patfor...

Re: GAZ 53L 4,3L V8 Engine Electronic Ignition

Yes! As we have the engine now installed in the boat with all pipings and the water cooling installed, we can say the engine has an impressive sound. However it is really not the V8 cough of an American, but a Russian Sound. The reason for this might be the design of the Volga V8, which has a small ...

Re: Overpowered versus Light

Integral shaft support Hi All, Someone recently asked how to connect an engine with the remote v-drive gearbox type ZF 63 IV. Every engine has to have a coupling between itself and the gearbox. A remote V-drive gearbox needs a prop-shaft (Kardan connection element). http://www.vulkan.com/fileadmin/p...

Re: x-mas tree

There was no progress here for a longer time, as I was looking for suitable lamp. The search for a suitable marine projector was in vain. Most design were white, square, too big or too ugly. I found this projector from a 50 cc Mojito and it is plastic chrome coated. I assume that it will not rust atl...

Re: GAZ 53L 4,3L V8 Engine Electronic Ignition

We tried our engine and this with generating more or less the same sound. I understand that the sound issue is related to the exhaust piping. There is no astmathic coughing like in a Ford Mustang.

Re: Rounded top wooden deck

Before starting with the screen, we had to make a welded stainless steel rim (holder) and had to bolt it on the hull. The rim had to fit the shape of the wooden inlays and had to go in paralell to them. Our mistake was that we used a rim with only 1 cm. We experienced that 15 - 20 mm would have been...

Re: Russia online

Nicely done! Congrats! The gearbox is interesting and I see it for the first time. Is it original? It looks like a nothing I have seen before. Do you have some specs about it? Does it include shifting (As I did not see any gearbox on the engine)?

Re: GAZ 53L 4,3L V8 Engine Electronic Ignition

Hi, Some of the YouTubers might have seen this one, but I decided to put it in again for the sake of listening to the original watercooled marine engine. Here declared as 113 it very much looks the same as mine and the sound is same, too. Enjoy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5qi5sjbJM08 Major diffe...
