Hi,
I think you should start this request by first showing photos of the damage and then tell us where you are? Otherwise someone would give you an address on the northpole or in the Vatikan.

Hi,
does anyone have the exact technical descirption of the material of the hull. Is it "Duraluminium 2017 Al Cu Mg 1".
Which material do you use to repair the hull if it is damaged?

Re: structural repair to Volga 70
When I was modifying my hull, I cut a piece off and had it sent out to be analyzed. It turns out to be an Aluminum/Magnesium alloy very similar to what is used to build oil rig supply boats in the Gulf of Mexico. I was able to get a piece of 5086/5083-H116 and it welds beautifully to the existing hull.

Re: structural repair to Volga 70
Hi,
thank you for the answer. That would mean we have as material:
EN AW 5083 [AlMg4,5Mn0,7] ?
For 5086 I didn´t find anything.
For the state number H116 I didn´t find anything too. Only the H111 state and the H16 state is described. I found this for 5083
Aluminium alloy
AlMg4,5Mn (3.3547) - EN AW 5083
combination in weight-%
Mn 0,4 - 1,0
Mg 4,0 - 4,9
-------------------------
good weldable and shaveable
good resistance to sea water
-------------------------
value for thikness from ca. 6 mm:
tensile strength 275 - 315 N/qmm
yield strength 125 - 180 N/qmm
hardness 70 - 100 Brinell
thermal conductivity ca. 1,1 W/cm °C
So we have Mn in the alloy. Where did you buy the alloy? Do you have a bill where the material number is shown?
Best regards
olaf

Re: structural repair to Volga 70
I found something for H116, as I asked Dr. Goggle
H116 - Applies to aluminum-magnesium alloys with a Magnesuim portion of minimum 4% and for whichlimits are set for the mechanical properties and resistance to layercorrosion.
Sorry, the translation is from Dr. Goggle too.
So then I try the 5083 with H111. The other material with H116 is not to buy here in Germany or inline.

Hay there,
het a sheet with compares...
I found on russian fora they the volga is made of AMg5V.
In Germany it is called A1Mg5.
its in the section of Rustproof Aluminum Alloy.
just for info..

Re: structural repair to Volga 70
Hi Mark,
thank you very much. In the second document ist the alloy 5056. Thats the Alu alloy with 5% Mg - A1Mg5. That meaterial isn´t easy to buy, isn´t it? First I thought AlMg5, but it´s the right name for marine alu A1Mg5.
Then I try the EN AW 5083 [AlMg4,5Mn0,7]. I think there shoudln´t be any side effects. I will process it obove the waterline with rivets.

Hi Olaf,
Can you upload also images of the work you do on your boat. It would be interesting to see how the boat can be repaired.
