We accomplished a crucial test yesterday by leak checking the Volga. It turned out to be a royal pain to find a traveling lift to drop it in the water, but we ultimately found one in San Francisco.
The good news is that none of the 75 through-hull penetrations for the foils leak! The parts we had re-molded sealed perfectly. We molded the bolt cups out of glass filled nylon, and the rubber gland out of santoprene. We used all new stainless hardware. The engine compartment and bow were completely dry (at least in static conditions). We did find 3 tiny leaks from corroded rivets in the passenger section. Fortunately, they are confined to one small bay, and they will be easy to address.
Since the engine compartment looks good, we can now move forward and permanently install the fuel system, drive and interior. The only part I am waiting on is the new rubber bumper that I am having extruded. Very exciting progress all in all. A few pictures enclosed.
