Removing Volvo Penta

Hi all. Advice required. I am in the middle of removing my engine in order to repair/rebuild same. I have all bolts removed from the bell housing, but can only move engine forward a few inches before the sump is against the boat cross member. My question is : is there sufficient 'give' for me to lift the front of the engine approx. three inches in order to clear the cross member.
Or must I move the stern drive/bell house backwards , out of the way. Obviously I want to avoid this , in order not to have to disturb the stern seals etc.
I am also looking for a propeller for this boat and any ideas for a cost effective windscreen. I have removed the cramped cabin that someone built . It was suitable for small people only.
