Post by Sjunker »

Hi
I bought a hull that i am restoring. The Stern tube bearings are missing.
Any suggestions on what was used originally and what to use to day?

Elementary. Lathe + one hour of work. http://forum.katera.ru/index.php?/topic ... ?p=1885710 Drawing illiterate, but clear and suitable for the manufacture of a stern tube. the best Material is stainless steel, But will require electrical insulation from the hull of the boat
and the drawing of Goodrich. Material kaprolon. Tolerance on cortege contains error (1.5 incorrectly! correctly -0.15!!!) http://forum.katera.ru/index.php?app=co ... _id=316740

Thanks Volgovod,

Sorry for my late reply :-)

The axle is 35 mm and I measure the internal diameter of the insert - where the bearing goes in - to be 45,4 mm.

Do you keep the bearing in place just by squeezing it in, or do you allso use other ways?
I would sure hate to have it falling out during sailing!!

By the way, I dont think using SS is a good idea... Stainless against stainless will give you the highest friction...I believe that Caprolon, EPDM-rubber or nylon is better.
