Volga Videos

Post by Volga70 »

Does anyone have any movies about or with Volga hydrofoils that they would like to share? I found a movie from the "Raketgruppen" from Sweden on YouTube,

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JJpAy0YunPc

Then there is some footage of the old Nixon Volga:

http://blondiesmachinery.com/mov/Nix.mpg

J.Pedra put some footage of his Red October on Youtube:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9PfHNyF-nCo

Also I took the Volga scenes from the movie Spy Games and put them in a single clip and put it online:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gk8TQmtqpnc

I accidentally stumbled upon a scene in the Russian movie called "The Diamond Arm" where a Volga races by, so I added that scene to YouTube as well. It seems to be the same type as our "Officer's boat", including tailfins!

Found a Youtube movie about Alexeev. In Russian, but with some great historical footage:

Please share your movieclips! Show off your Volga! 8)

Peter Wainig sent me the URL's for two YouTube clips with some great Volga footage. The clips were made recently on the Danube, near Vienna, Austria. The boat has been refitted with a 7L Chevrolet V* with around 500 HP as I understood. With passengers it is quite deep in the water, but the engine is so powerful that the whole boat almost jumps out of the water as soon as the throttle opens. Looks awesome!

From Jörg Daniel Schmickl we also received a picture of the same boat. Seems the boat made quite an impression on the crowd during a dock party that was organised by the Club for owners of Historical river ships, at the former KORNEUBURG Ship Yard!

Many thanks to Peter and Jörg for sharing!

Hi Georg,

That would be a video of me taking a ride in the first Volga I ever saw - it's the one that made me fall in love with this type of boat... The lakes at Trakai are actually way too small for the Volga (lovely area though!). You will cross the lake in less than 2 minutes, barely enough time to reach full speed.

We tried to buy this boat, but the price they were asking was too high. So we started looking for another Volga, and ended up buying two - the 'officers boat' and the other 'rescue volga' that you can find in the gallery of this site. This summer I was back in Trakai - the Volga is gone now. I guess they managed to sell it to someone in the end. Anyone out there who is the new owner? Please send us some recent pictures of this Volga! :)

The movie was made with my mobile phone, a Nokia 7650 - the first camera phone. Quality is not very good, but still you get an idea. Below are some more movies from that day + 1 pic. Enjoy!

I have been digging again in YouTube. There are some more I have found:

This one seems to be a rather new one. Maybe the one which has also been displayed on a Russian Boatshow:

A red one repaired but probably not finished...

Hi "rmw",
That's a great looking Volga "Strela" you got there! From the comments under your youtube videos I understand that it did not run for 20 years, and everything is original? Woul you care to share your story (with some picttures) in the "Your Hydrofoil" topic? I'm curious how old it is, where it was made, where you found it :-)

Cheers,
Maurits

Here a movie of a fast Croatian Volga with a Mercedes OM603 engine. Looks like it's Dinko's boat! And another movie of that boat here.

And through the 'related' feature of Youtube I just found a video of the WS202 in Germany, owned by Alfons: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=stINIVAYVbM

See www.ddr-binnenschifffahrt.de to find out more about the WS (Wasserschutz) police boats from the DDR.
