Changing engine. GAZ53 out and ?? [V8] in.

Hi,

I am changing the engine to my Volga and planning to put an American V8 (chevy small block or some other). I'll post here some pictures of how it goes.

Re: autocad drawings for custom made traler and wings

When I bought my Volga I got this trailer with the boat. It works ok, but getting the wings in the right places usually takes a few tries.

Re: V-drive gear broken

Hi,

Actually the axle coupling was broken. It did not even have a grease nipple and was basically rusted to atoms from the inside. I had a new one made last winter and now it works.

Re: Spare parts

Hi Mark! What engine are you planning on installing? I'm changing my GAZ53 out for an American V8 and in the same project I'm probably going to remove the original planetary gear and V-gear and replacing them with a ZF63IV as discussed in some other posts. The reason for doing this is reliability, e...

Hi Doug! You have a very interesting story to share! Thanks for it. Would you happen to have any videos of the Volga doing 70mph? I am interested in what stability and handling is at high speeds. Have you had any issues with cavitation on the foils? Basically with enough lift at high speeds that sho...

Re: New users

Hi Soeren, Nice to hear that I was not the only one fascinated with this boat, I was lucky to get it. The bad this was that the original axle coupling broke at the end of last season and now that I've fixed that others things pop up. Propably all due to the boat not being used for a few year. Anyhow...

Hi Olaf,

Can you upload also images of the work you do on your boat. It would be interesting to see how the boat can be repaired.

Re: (Planetary) Gearbox surprise!

Dear George,

Do you have any more pictures of the planetary gear box. My gear seems to be broken and I intend to pull it apart to check whats the problem. Would be good to know what I'm expecting to see.

Re: V-drive gear broken

Actually now that I looked into it I suspect that the reduction gear is the broken part. When having the gear in any position there is no resistance to turning of the axle. I will take the motor out to see how bad it looks. I have another gear that is broken on the output axle end so I should be abl...

V-drive gear broken

edit: Fixed picture and link Hello All, I was cruising yesterday with my newly bought Volga (which has GAZ53 and V-drive). After cruising 30 miles to a near by port and then the same 30 miles back the V-gear broke, just as I was returning to port. It seems that it had leaked all the oil I added to t...

Re: New users

Actually what ended up happening was that I bought a Volga from Latvia. It has the original GAZ53 engine with V-drive. I'll post some pictures when I get around to taking them.
